For many teens in Mont Belvieu, Baytown and nearby towns, the choice between braces and Invisalign comes down to daily life: school photos, sports, band, and how much they want to think about their teeth. At Knecht Orthodontics, we offer Invisalign for teens in Mont Belvieu alongside custom braces, and we help families pick the option that fits the teen, not just the teeth.

Is my teen a good fit for Invisalign?

Invisalign works well for many teens with mild to moderate crowding, spacing and bite concerns. The bigger question is usually habits. Aligners only work while they are in, so teens need to wear them 20 to 22 hours a day and put them back after every meal. Teens who can handle that usually do very well. If a case is complex, or a teen is likely to leave aligners in a locker, braces for teens may be the better choice. Dr. Kristen Knecht will tell you honestly which she recommends.

How does Invisalign fit into a teen's school week?

Sports and band

Aligners have no brackets or wires that can cut the lips during contact sports. Teens who play wind instruments often find aligners easier to adjust to than braces, though there is a short adjustment period either way.

Eating and lunch at school

Aligners come out to eat, so there is no list of foods to avoid. The trade-off is that teens should brush or at least rinse before putting them back in, so packing a travel case and toothbrush in the backpack helps.

Fewer visits during the school day

Invisalign usually needs fewer in-office visits than braces. Our office at 9115 Eagle Dr, Suite 300 in Mont Belvieu is about 20 minutes from central Baytown, and we schedule check-ins with school pickup and practice times in mind.

How do parents know aligners are being worn?

Invisalign Teen aligners include a small blue compliance indicator that fades with wear. Parents and our team can glance at it to see whether the aligners are spending enough time in. Check-in visits also show whether teeth are tracking with the digital plan.

What does treatment look like from start to finish?

Treatment starts with an iTero scan instead of impression putty, which most teens find quick and easy. From the scan, we plan each stage of tooth movement before the first aligner is made. Teens switch to a new set of aligners on a set schedule, and we check progress at each visit. When treatment ends, retainers keep the new smile in place. Because we keep the digital scan and 3D print in our office, a lost retainer can usually be replaced without new impressions. Read more about our orthodontic technology.

Common questions from parents

What if my teen loses an aligner?

Call our office. Depending on where they are in treatment, we may move them to the next set or order a replacement.

Does Invisalign take longer than braces for teens?

Not necessarily. Timing depends on the case and on wear time. We give you a timeline at the consultation.

Can my teen switch from braces to Invisalign later?

Sometimes. Ask Dr. Knecht at a check-in and she can tell you whether it makes sense for your teen's case.
