Families in Mont Belvieu, Baytown, Crosby and the rest of Chambers and east Harris County often ask the same question at a first visit: what does all the equipment actually change for my child, or for me? At Knecht Orthodontics, the answer is fewer messy steps, fewer guesses and fewer trips to our office at 9115 Eagle Dr, Suite 300 in Mont Belvieu. Here is how each piece of our orthodontic technology fits into real treatment.
What happens at a first visit with digital records?
Your first visit starts with an iTero scan instead of trays of impression putty. A small handheld wand records a 3D model of the teeth and gums in a few minutes. It is radiation-free, and most kids and adults find it far easier than impressions. You can see the model on screen right away, which helps when Dr. Kristen Knecht explains what she sees and what treatment would involve.
When is CBCT imaging used?
When a case needs more than a flat X-ray, we use CBCT (cone beam computed tomography). A single scan gives a 3D view of roots, jaw position, impacted teeth and the airway. That matters for teeth that have not come in, for adults with past dental work, and for children whose crowding, mouth breathing or poor sleep point toward airway orthodontics.
How does the KLOwen system change braces?
Our braces run on the KLOwen custom digital bracket system. Instead of placing standard brackets by hand at the chair, each bracket is designed from your own scan and 3D printed for that tooth. The goal is more precise tooth movement from the start. For most patients that means fewer wire-bending adjustments and shorter visits. KLOwen comes in metal and tooth-colored ceramic, so the same precision is available whichever look you prefer. Learn more about braces in Mont Belvieu.
Why does in-house 3D printing matter?
Because we print models and appliances in our own office, retainers and other appliances do not sit in a queue at an outside lab. If a retainer is lost or cracked, we can usually work from your saved digital scan rather than starting over with a new impression. For families driving in from Dayton, Liberty or Anahuac, that can save a trip.
Does this technology help with Invisalign too?
Yes. Invisalign treatment is planned from the same iTero scan. The digital plan shows how the teeth are expected to move, stage by stage, before the first aligner is made. At check-ins we compare progress against that plan and adjust if a tooth is lagging behind.
What does this mean for busy Mont Belvieu and Baytown families?
Most of our patients balance school, practices, band and work shifts. Digital records, custom brackets and in-house printing all point toward the same practical result: treatment that is planned carefully up front, with fewer surprises and fewer unplanned visits along the way. Families come to us from Baytown, Crosby, Highlands, Cove and Barrett, and we schedule with that drive in mind.
Common questions about orthodontic technology
Is the iTero scan safe for young children?
Yes. The iTero scanner uses light, not radiation, and nothing has to set in the mouth.
Does everyone need a CBCT scan?
No. Dr. Knecht recommends CBCT when she needs a 3D view to plan safely, such as impacted teeth, jaw concerns or airway questions.
Do custom brackets cost more?
Every case is different. We go over the treatment plan and costs at your free consultation, before anything starts.
